Hi all! So, I’ve been a little lax on posting my craftiness, but I am going to try & get back to it! I’ve got a number of completed projects to post, and will do so soon, I promise!

But today, I went to a paper folding class with my mother-in-law at Vintage Vogue in Tipp City, OH. I’ve seen these types of projects on Pinterest and wanted to try. So, here are the projects we did today … a paper flower, medallion & a folded book. Very cool class & the book folding looks great a decorative piece.

After a long break from crafting, today I got my craft back on.

As Jeff watched the Family Guy version of Star Wars, I was spending my time on Pinterest, and refound all of these great ideas that I had pinned months ago. After making fun of me for my pinning, Jeff proceeded to say, “Hey, want to try and make those?” So, we attempted our hands at salt dough.

We made two batches. One to air dry and the other to bake. We’ll see which comes out better. I’ll be sure to give a full report!

It felt good to be creative again. Now that the weather is starting to turn a bit cooler, maybe my crafty side will reemerge!!

These will air dry! These are baking!

I love this quote for a few reasons: 1) its from a great movie, 2) I watched this movie with Jeff and if it hadn’t been for him I probably never would have seen it, 3) I totally get it, and 4) it’s a quote from Ben Kenobi.

I have heard that Mr. Guinness hated to be known & remembered only for his role as Obi Wan Kenobi, but I can’t help that it is his identifier for me. But as much as he may have disliked it … maybe it was that identifier that peaked my interest to see his other films?

I just finished watching my first Final Four basketball games. I really don’t understand how people can be such huge fans and not have extremely high blood pressure. The end of game stress is unbelievable! And I thought sitting through a shoot out in hockey was painful … sheesh!

I totally realize I am not living up to the “crafty” portion of my blog description, but my crafty juices have been lacking as of late … and my last two attempts at being crafty were highly unsuccessful.

So, in the meantime, I will fill the time & space with cool-geekdom and hope that will suffice until I can get my craft back on.

I am so excited that I can finally post the project I had been working on for Christmas gifts!!! I saw a picture of these on Pinterest, and decided to make them myself as gifts this year. Here’s how I did it!

First off, each reindeer takes five (5) wine corks, one (1) pipe cleaner, one (1) red nose and ribbon/string to use for hanging. They are assembled with hot glue.

So, because I am overly anal about things, I had hundreds of corks, and I tried very hard to make sure that I did not repeat the same cork on a single reindeer, or if I did, I made sure it was done systematically … having the legs be the same, or the head and body, etc. I tend to over think things, and this project was no exception.

I started by off selecting five (5) corks and deciding how I wanted to assemble them.

Three (3) of the corks needed to have one end cut at an angle (1 for the neck and 2 for the legs) so that they can attach to the other corks at the proper angle. I used an xacto knife to make the cuts.

Next, I prepped the antlers. I took one (1) pipe cleaner and cut it in half. Half #1 I bent into a “v”, Half #2 I cut into four (4) smaller pieces. I then wrapped these smaller pieces around the “v” to make the points on the antlers.

Because I meant for these to be ornaments, I cut gold cord and stapled it to the cork that was to be the “body” of the reindeer. I made sure to staple it to the end that was going to be glued to the neck (the staple merely acted as a place holder so that I could then apply the hot glue to secure the body to the neck).

I set the body and neck aside to give the glue time to set. Next, I attached the antlers to the head. Using the hole that was already punched in the end of the cork from the cork screw. I injected hot glue into the hole and then inserted the point of the “v” of the antlers into the hole. Then I bent the antlers upward while pressing the pipe cleaner against the back of the cork and the glue. I then glued a red ball on the end of the cork for the nose.

Next, I hot glued the legs on to the body, and the head onto the neck.

And with that, you have an adorable Wine Cork Reindeer! I made 61 reindeer, which equals 305 wine corks … and no, I didn’t drink all that wine myself … I had help! :o)
